- ItemRoute planning for bacteria(Oberwolfach : Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach gGmbH, 2022) Hellmuth, Kathrin; Klingenberg, ChristianBacteria have been fascinating biologists since their discovery in the late 17th century. By analysing their movements, mathematical models have been developed as a tool to understand their behaviour. However, adapting these models to real situations can be challenging, because the model coefficients cannot be observed directly. In this snapshot, we study this question mathematically and explain how the idea of “route planning” can be used to determine these model coefficients.
- ItemStructure-Preserving Discretizations for Nonlinear Systems of Hyperbolic, Involution-Constrained Partial Differential Equations on Manifolds(Zürich : EMS Publ. House, 2020) Despres, Bruno; Dumbser, Michael; Klingenberg, ChristianBecause of the pandemia, the workshop on ``Structure-Preserving Discretizations for Nonlinear Systems of Hyperbolic, Involution-Constrained Partial Differential Equations on Manifolds" could not be realized in the usual format or in the new hybrid format. Only one participant (P. Helluy) was able to physically come the MFO. He worked remotely with C. Klingenberg on a structure preserving time integration for kinetic models. This allows to building efficient schemes for solving conservation laws. A preprint describing this work, with applications to MHD, can be found here: \texttt{https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-02965967}. Meanwhile, C. Klingenberg organized a remote seminar on the topics of the workshop. From September 2020 to December 2020, 13 talks were given online by participants to the workshop and other personalities.
- ItemStructure-Preserving Discretizations for Nonlinear Systems of Hyperbolic, Involution-Constrained Partial Differential Equations on Manifolds(Oberwolfach : Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach, 2022) Castro, Manuel; Després, Bruno; Dumbser, Michael; Klingenberg, ChristianThe topic of this workshop was the study of mathematical and numerical analysis for involution-constrained hyperbolic partial differential equations on manifolds. An example is the positivity of the density for the compressible Euler equations. 25 international participants attended the workshop. There were 22 lectures, covering a wide gamut of the topic.
