- ItemThe colored Jones polynomial and Kontsevich-Zagier series for double twist knots(Oberwolfach : Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach, 2017) Lovejoy, Jeremy; Osburn, RobertUsing a result of Takata, we prove a formula for the colored Jones polynomial of the double twist knots K(−m,−p) and K(−m,p) where m and p are positive integers. In the (−m,−p) case, this leads to new families of q-hypergeometric series generalizing the Kontsevich-Zagier series. Comparing with the cyclotomic expansion of the colored Jones polynomials of K(m,p) gives a generalization of a duality at roots of unity between the Kontsevich-Zagier function and the generating function for strongly unimodal sequences.
- ItemRank Deviations for Overpartitions(Oberwolfach : Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach, 2023) Lovejoy, Jeremy; Osburn, RobertWe prove general fomulas for the deviations of two overpartition ranks from the average, namely \begin{equation*} \overline{D}(a, M) := \sum_{n \geq 0} \Bigl( \overline{N}(a, M, n) - \frac{\overline{p}(n)}{M} \Bigr) q^n \end{equation*} and \begin{equation*} \overline{D}_{2}(a,M) := \sum_{n \geq 0} \Bigl( \overline{N}_{2}(a, M, n) - \frac{\overline{p}(n)}{M} \Bigr) q^n \end{equation*} where $\overline{N}(a, M, n)$ denotes the number of overpartitions of $n$ with rank congruent to $a$ modulo $M$, $\overline{N}_{2}(a, M, n)$ is the number of overpartitions of $n$ with $M_2$-rank congruent to $a$ modulo $M$ and $\overline{p}(n)$ is the number of overpartitions of $n$. These formulas are in terms of Appell-Lerch series and sums of quotients of theta functions and can be used, among other things, to recover any of the numerous overpartition rank difference identities in the literature. We give examples for $M=3$ and $6$.
