- ItemControl of the glass melting process - Results of gas extraction investigations(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 1995) Hartmann, Erika; Stelzner, Thomas; Heide, KlausVarious parameters influencing the extractable gas content were investigated with the help of improved equipment for high-vacuum extraction experiments. Investigations of a tube melting tank, of the homogeneity of gas distribution in a TV screen and gob and of laboratory melts with different fining agents are described in detail. The different degassing behavior of different glass types are also described. It could be shown that the complex influence of technological and chemical factors determines the amount of physically and chemically dissolved gases. With experience in the analytical procedure, the use of statistical methods of data processing and the knowledge of technological parameters, it is possible to give hints for melting process control.
- ItemDegassing behavior of optical glasses(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 1992) Stelzner, Thomas; Ηeide, KlausThe suitability of high-vacuum extraction for judging the "fining condition" and the "fining behavior" of selected optical glasses as well as for tracing the fining process in glass melting tanks is being demonstrated. Degassing of optical glasses examined occurs in three steps, with oxygen representing the main share of extractable gases. The specific parameters for the characterization of the instantaneous quality of the glass melt in a glass melting tank are the differences of mean bubble size in samples taken from different locations and of "physically" as well as "chemically" dissolved oxygen. The fining mechanism of a soda—lime—silica and of a lead—silica glass are discussed.
