- ItemAccurate measurement of absorption spectra and refractive index of glass by Spectrophotometry(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 2004) van Nijnatten, Peter A.The experimental methods for determining optical constants like refractive index and absorption coefficient often require specialized equipment. An Instrument that is standard equipment in most laboratories where optical materials are being characterized is the spectrophotometer. This type of Instrument is widely used for the measurement of reflectance and transmittance spectra at wavelengths ranging from 200 nm up to 50,000 nm. The paper aims to present a state-of-the-art overview of methods for determination of the optical constants of glass by Spectrophotometry. Examples are given for various types of glasses and applications under room temperature as well as elevated temperatures.
- ItemOptical properties of window glass in the 40 to 630 °C temperature range at wavelengths from 2.0 to 4.3 μm(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 2003) Efimov, Andrei M.; van Nijnatten, Peter A.The optical properties of float window glass in the 2300 to 5000 cm-1 (4.3 to 2.0 µm) region at temperatures from 40 to 630 °C are investigated. The absorption spectra are measured with a high-temperature accessory. The spectra of the optical constants, individual components of the absorption spectra, and also the band frequencies and intensities are calculated with the dispersion analysis method. The effect of temperature on the spectra is shown to be due to changes in the intensities of certain water-related bands. The most important intensity changes are discussed in terms of the reversible shift of an equilibrium between different structural sites for the hydroxyl group.
