Abstract

The LMU Munich subproject within the MINT-ProNeD consortium investigated how immersive digital technologies, virtual and augmented reality and generative and predictive AI, can be meaningfully integrated into physics education. A central outcome was the development, piloting, and evaluation of a Future Innovation Hub as a space for experimentation, teacher professional development, and research, designed and refined in close collaboration with practicing teachers. Over the project period, digital learning prototypes were created and more than 20 workshops with over 300 teachers were conducted. Iterative evaluation highlighted both the high technical demands of emerging technologies and the need for concrete, classroom-ready examples, leading to redesigned, technology-focused workshop formats and the establishment of a technology-supported physics student lab. Since early 2025, this lab has been in regular operation and serves as a sustainable transfer and research infrastructure. Overall, the project provides empirically grounded insights and lasting structures that support the evidence-based digital transformation of STEM teaching and teacher education.
