Abstract
In project DESTINI, the solar thermal blind was implemented for the first time on a real building. The slats can be rotated around their vertical axis and provide solar thermal yield, visual contact between inside and outside and solar control. To meet the client's requirements in terms of design, functionality and costs, the solar thermal venetian blind was developed and adapted to the boundary conditions of the construction project. The special features of the planning process of this multifunctional technology were evaluated to gain insights for the planning of solar thermally active and multifunctional façade systems in general. The movable thermal coupling was in the focus of the development and the slats have been optimized. The movement mechanism was adapted, and a test sample was built that was tested in the laboratory. The façade elements were manufactured, installed, and connected to the building services together with a monitoring system. The analysis shows that the solar thermal blind can be implemented in an aesthetically attractive way, offering both solar thermal heat and visual contact between inside and outside and sun protection. At the same time, it is so flexible that it can be easily adapted to planned construction projects.
