From 1991 to 1994, P LM Münder installed an integrated flue gas treatment system designed to meet the latest environmental Standards and reduce the overall energy consumption. The system consists of four components: a) A batch preheater was installed on one furnace reducing the energy consumption by 15%. b) A calcium hydroxide absorption tower and electrostatic precipitator unit reduce acid contaminants as well as particulate emissions for all furnaces well below legal limits. c) A selective catalytic reduction (SCR) DeNOx plant reduces nitrogen oxide emissions below the legal limit of 500 mg/m^. d) A waste heat utilization plant generates about 700 kW electricity from the residual heat. The results of the Operation of the SCR DeNOx plant for the years 1995 and 1996 show - there are no operational problems for the DeNOx plant with flue gas of container glass furnaces, - dust problems can be overcome by using dust blowers on a regular basis and additional manual cleaning about once a year, - the deterioration of the catalytic elements is according to the layout calculations, allowing for a life expectancy of about five years and - the overall costs for Installation and operadon of this plant are about D M 3.18/t glass produced.eng
