Abstract

The joint project DEKOR-X (Decentralized Communication Space Intersection), a contribution to the VDA flagship initiative for autonomous and connected driving, aimed to increase safety and efficiency at complex inner-city intersections through decentralized communication. The focus was on developing a scalable solution where intelligent, automated vehicles exchange their sensor data directly with each other (V2V) to extend their perception horizon ("look around the corner"). In contrast to purely infrastructure-focused approaches, static sensor technology remains an optional component here, which reduces costs and increases geographic scalability. Another core aspect was the aggregation of sensor data in a cloud backend to create mathematical motion models. These models provide vehicles with valuable empirical knowledge about typical trajectories and danger zones in order to proactively optimize their own path planning. The project results were successfully validated on public and closed test fields in Kronach with a cross-manufacturer test fleet, demonstrating the interoperability of the systems. The project thus makes a significant contribution to "Vision Zero" and the industrial implementation of L4 automation in Germany.

Valeo Telematics handled the sub-project in the joint venture: Connected mobility with V2V and 5G.
