Assignment of binary gender to mathematics authors in zbMATH

Abstract

This is additional material for a publication (to appear) on effects of gender in the publication patterns in mathematics. Since the original data set contained no information on the authors' gender, we used a publicly available annotated collection of first names to assign a binary gender. The document shows the corresponding algorithmic procedure that we implemented.
