dc.description.abstractThe GAIA‑X 4 AGEDA project aims to develop a future‑ready vehicle architecture that seamlessly integrates Cloud‑ and Edge‑Computing to meet growing demands for data‑driven automotive applications. The initiative addresses limitations of current decentralized and domain‑centric vehicle architectures by enabling scalable, secure, and dynamically reconfigurable software functions in line with GAIA‑X principles for European data sovereignty. Over its three‑year duration, the project defined application‑driven requirements, designed a comprehensive software and hardware architecture, and implemented key components for a vehicle‑centric reference platform. A central outcome is the development of Eclipse Ankaios, a lightweight Rust‑based orchestrator tailored for automotive high‑performance computing systems, enabling reliable workload management across vehicle and cloud environments. The project also delivered a customized Linux‑based base software stack for vehicle and cloud platforms and contributed methods for secure deployment, orchestration, and runtime management. Extensive requirement analyses resulted in 92 technical requirements that informed the architecture and ensured reusability for future initiatives. Through collaborative work with industry and research partners, the project aligned with broader GAIA‑X ecosystems such as Federation Services, Mobility Data Space, and Catena‑X. A significant achievement is the demonstration of dynamic workload relocation between vehicle and cloud based on environmental conditions, showcasing improved resource efficiency, resilience, and service availability. The resulting AGEDA framework supports continuous functional updates, integration of new applications after vehicle delivery, and access to critical data for connected mobility scenarios. Open‑source publication of Eclipse Ankaios within the Eclipse SDV Working Group ensures long‑term impact and community‑driven evolution. The project outcomes will be transitioned into Elektrobit’s EB corbos product line, reinforcing the industrial applicability of the developed technologies. Overall, GAIA‑X 4 AGEDA lays a technological foundation for software‑defined vehicles that benefit OEMs, mobility ecosystems, and end users.eng
