Abstract
State of science and technology: There are currently no established industrial processes for the safe filling of highly reactive, hydrogen-containing media such as PowerPaste. In particular, there is a lack of compact, ATEX-compliant plant solutions for low-humidity filling into suitable container systems. Objective: The aim of the sub-project was to develop and prototype a semi-automatic filling system that can be used to fill viscous reactive substances – PowerPaste – into metal piston cartridges in a controlled, safe, and economical manner. Method: Based on defined safety and process requirements, a system concept with a double-walled inert gas filling lance, cycle mechanism, and protective enclosure was developed. In addition, a piston cartridge system with a volume of over 3000 ml was created. The machine was completely designed and constructed. Result: The system for filling PowerPaste into metal piston cartridges was completed by the end of the project and tested with test material. Commissioning at the future location of use will be carried out after the end of the project. The modular design of the filling system allows adaptation to other media and applications. Conclusion/possible applications: The technology developed can be transferred to similar filling goods and is suitable for industries with dosing requirements for reactive media. The first elements have been successfully integrated into an external customer project. Series implementation is in preparation. The project contributes to the industrial implementation of safe, compact filling solutions in the EX environment.
