Abstract
The paper deals with theoretieal and practical procedures for computing the temperature fields of a type of glass mould and with one of the different procedures for the computation of stress fields under special simplyfied conditions. The computation of stress fields in the glass mould is a necessary prerequisite throwing light on the development of low-cycle thermal fatigue of the mould material which results in fatigue cracks on the working surface of the glass mould and thus in its premature discarding. The calculations are implemented for a cast iron mould used for pressing roof tiles made of glass. The study presents further recommendations and suggestions of procedures to make the computations of stress fields and the conditions for the development of fatigue cracks more precise and, where possible, generalised. In future, this may be needed also for other groups of materials from which glass moulds are made and the results thus obtained could be helpful for routine work in the design of glass moulds.
