Abstract
The research project DROPS - Data Standards for Resource-Optimized Production and Service Processes in Buildings and Districts aimed to develop an open, manufacturer-independent data standard for the interoperable integration of planning, construction, and operational data throughout the building lifecycle. The project focused on the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM), the Internet of Things (IoT), and material-related data structures to create a consistent and lifecycle-oriented data foundation. Within the project, semantic data models, open interfaces, and a technical integration architecture were developed to enable the cross-system connectivity of heterogeneous building technologies. The developed concepts were implemented in prototype form and validated in the real-world demonstration project BORX, an office building development by STRABAG Real Estate in Hamburg. The implementation included the integration of sensor systems, keyless access solutions, and the provision and visualization of operational building data. A key outcome of the project is an open data standard that reduces integration efforts and improves data availability for building operations. The project results contribute to the digitalization, sustainability, and resource efficiency of the construction and real estate industry, while providing a scalable foundation for applications such as digital twins, energy management, and data-driven building optimization.
