Abstract
The IntWertL collaborative project developed a digital, decentralized ecosystem for producing lightweight vehicles in small volumes. In its sub-project, InstaWerk GmbH developed functions based on STEP models and technical specifications for the automated determination of manufacturability, prices and lead times as well as suitable manufacturing processes and production partners. Building on the existing instant pricing solution for CNC-turned and milled parts, 17 manufacturing processes were examined with production partners in terms of machinery, materials, part dimensions, cost structures and technical constraints. For direct metal laser sintering, a data-driven cost model was developed from more than 38,000 price points for around 1,300 CAD models. In addition, a modular matching algorithm and a rule-based process identification system were developed; the latter achieved a success rate of 88.2%. The pricing approaches were combined in a modular instant pricing architecture covering six manufacturing strategies: turning, milling, polymer and metal additive manufacturing, laser processing and bending. Uniform data models and standardized request and response schemas enabled integration into the IntWertL platform via a REST-based pricing API. The demonstrator supported an end-to-end user journey from part creation to order processing. The key technology “Highly Flexible Decentralized Production Platform (Manufacturing-as-a-Service for Lightweight Engineering)” was assessed at TRL 7 in the consortium’s overall validation. The technical objectives were achieved at the intended prototype maturity level.
