Abstract

The UNDINA project developed an intelligent multimodal underwater communication and positioning system integrating acoustic, optical, and inductive modems into a single module. Its goal was to enhance data rates, reliability, and positioning accuracy for autonomous underwater vehicles and benthic stations. A programmable protocol stack (PPS) and the hybrid communication and positioning system (HoPS) were implemented. Field tests in Norway, France, and Germany successfully validated the technology. The project strengthens European marine technology competitiveness and lays the foundation for future applications and patents.
