Abstract

Erzielte Ergebnisse in Stichpunkten:

AIS-Daten aggregiert
  • Emissionssensor-Cluster installiert: Verschiedene Sensoren an Lichtmasten des Containerterminals CT4/CT IIIa installiert; kontinuierliche Erfassung von PM, O3, NO2, CO2 und Wetterparametern;
  • Datenschnittstellen realisiert: u.a.Schnittstelle zum SAMS-Radarsystem;

The Port2Connect project (19H22008) was funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) under the "Innovative Port Technologies" (IHATEC) programme. Building on six exemplary use cases, the project consortium jointly developed an intelligent port logbook providing low-threshold, unified access to relevant operational data across the port. As a specialist in maritime IoT and software solutions, TRENZ made two core contributions to the intelligent port logbook for the Stromkaje quay in Bremerhaven:

Use Case "Pilot Assistance": A mobile test client was developed that supports harbour pilots during berthing manoeuvres with processed radar data - vessel distance and alignment relative to the quay - displayed on a tablet. The data originates from the radar-based Ship Berthing Measurement System (SAMS) installed along the quay and is transmitted wirelessly to the ship's bridge. Field tests with harbour pilots in Bremerhaven confirmed the system's suitability for real-world operational use.

IoT Infrastructure including Emissions Monitoring: The Harbour Master Controller (HMC) developed by TRENZ forms the technical backbone for AIS data aggregation, radar data forwarding and emissions measurement. Air quality sensors measuring particulate matter (PM), ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and carbon dioxide (CO2) were installed on lighting masts at the container terminal and integrated into the port logbook.

Benefits: Pilots gain an additional electronic data source under poor visibility conditions, enhancing the safety of berthing manoeuvres. Port operators receive a scalable IoT infrastructure for environmental and infrastructure monitoring. The emissions data provide, for the first time, a basis for vessel-specific emissions attribution and a data-driven incentive scheme for pollution reduction in the port.

Key results:

  • Pilot test client developed and validated: Tablet-based real-time client with a nautical chart view and bar chart display of radar measurements; assessed as operationally suitable in field tests with harbour pilots in Bremerhaven.
  • IoT infrastructure (HMC) built and operated: Multiple Harbour Master Controllers installed as an IoT backbone; AIS data aggregated and fed into the port logbook, among other functions.
  • Emissions sensor cluster installed: Various sensors mounted on lighting masts at container terminals CT4/CT IIIa; continuous measurement of PM, O3, NO2, CO2 and weather parameters.
  • Data interfaces implemented: Interface to the SAMS radar system established, among others.
  • Radio transmission technologies evaluated: 5G, Sub-GHz/LoRa and NB-IoT tested in a real port environment; Sub-GHz/LoRa identified as the most suitable solution, achieving approximately 6 km range with effective penetration of the ship's bridge structure.
