Abstract

As part of the SkaLaB collaborative project, VIA Consult was responsible for coordinating the consortium, managing the project, handling external communications, and developing an Excel-based process cost simulation for business analysis. This simulation was subsequently converted into a Python module by partner TWT and integrated into the overall IT process of the process generator. This was followed by corresponding user tests. In addition, various business models were developed. The economic analysis shows that, compared to conventional tools, the SkaLaB cell offers economic advantages for a reference component with a production volume of up to approximately 103,000 units, and the business plan developed for the "Industry as a Service" (IaaS) forecasts a positive EBIT starting in the third fiscal year, based on an initial investment of ~2.37 million euros. In addition, the "Software as a Service" (SaaS) business model was analyzed, in which ProGen is marketed as a scalable B2B SaaS solution on a license basis. The projected financial statement shows a break-even point in the fifth fiscal year (2030). Due to a structural start-up funding gap, follow-on financing is required. Key challenges include the high pre-financing requirements, the lack of empirical validation data, and a delivery delay for the Neura cobots, which postponed the cell’s commissioning to the end of November 2025. This prevented the conduct of test runs and validations, as well as the development of a training and qualification plan.
