Abstract

For quantum metrology and sensing applications, 3D ion traps offer the best performance characteristics. Fabrication technologies for 3D ion traps have been demonstrated in laboratory scale, however, commercial manufacturing is too expensive due to the high cost of the materials used, specialized fabrication techniques and the complexity of assembly. Secondly, the detection mechanism for 3D ion traps are till date based on bulky free space optics.

The objective of this project was to realize a cost-effective production line for chip-based ion traps along with CMOS based photodetectors with integrated electronics for 3D ion traps.
