Abstract
The objective of Project SKALa for Sherwin-Williams Coatings Deutschland GmbH was to develop a new corrosion protection coating for heavily stressed weld seams in marine environments. The goal was to extend the service life of marine structures by up to 50% and significantly reduce maintenance efforts through a better understanding of failure mechanisms occurring at weld seams. The primary focus was the development of a weld-tolerant coating system with enhanced protective properties.
By the end of the project, a new product has been developed and is being introduced to the market by Sherwin-Williams Coatings Deutschland GmbH. The new product offers a wide range of applications both in the marine sector and in other areas requiring heavy-duty corrosion protection, making it attractive to many industries in Germany. As a result, the original objectives of the project were fully achieved.
