    Bridging the Gap in Research Information with PIDs for Academic Events

    In this presentation, the service and several use-cases of PIDs for academic events will be introduced. This includes e.g. usage in current research information systems, and for investigations in the field of science on science: Conferences have a specific role in the scientific system structure, which also reflects the respective social conditions (e.g. on topics such as sustainability, equity of access).,Furthermore an analysis of the Datacite DOIs and the associated metadata will be provided. The overview includes coverage of different properties, eg. spatial and temporal data, contributing organizations, or the distribution of the currently available DOIs on Fields of Science which represent various reuse scenarios for ConfIDent data.

    Concept for Setting up the Persistent Identifier Services Working Group in the NFDI Section "Common Infrastructures"

    The aim of this NFDI working group is to develop a common strategy for the implementation and extension of PID services that is closely aligned with the needs of NFDI consortia. Resulting solutions should enable FAIR research workflows balancing out generic metadata requirements for PIDs that maximise resource discoverability on the one hand and subject-specific needs on the other. At the technical level, the partners want to realise interoperability between PID types and established systems and build on a high level of maturity here; jointly developed services should be able to be rolled out for the entire NFDI.

    Isn't a number and a URL enough? Why PIDs matter and technical solutions alone are not sufficient

    In the presentation, we introduce the two projects PID4NFDI and PID Network Germany that deal with PIDs at the national level, present some initial findings and highlight their benefit for NFDI. PIDs are used and needed along the entire lifecycle of research data: from enabling to connecting. However, a particular focus for the presentation will be laid on harmonising and connecting.

    It Takes More Than a Village: A National Network of Bottom up PID Strategies in Germany

    There are individual efforts to develop national persistent identifier (PID) strategies involving numerous stakeholders and infrastructures. The planned panel discussion wants to provide insights into the diversity of developments in Germany. We will present the bottom-up strategies for open identification systems from the perspective of the projects PID Network Germany and PID4NFDI as well as the national DOI and ORCID consortia.

    PID4NFDI: Survey on PID Practices. Main results

    In December 2022 and January 2023, the NFDI working group on Persistent Identifier Services conducted a survey among infrastructure managers of NFDI services to learn about current PID integrations and future plans on PID usage. The slides summarise the key results of the survey.

    Die Rolle der ORCID iD in der Wissenschaftskommunikation: Der Beitrag des ORCID-Deutschland-Konsortiums und das ORCID-DE-Projekt

    ORCID’s services such as the unambiguous linking of researchers and their research output form the basis of modern scholarly communication. The ORCID Germany Consortium offers a reduced ORCID premium membership fee and supports its members during ORCID integration. Services include a dialogue platform that provides German-language information and additional support services. Another major success factor is an all-encompassing communication strategy: members of the ORCID implementation can resort to established organizational communication channels. Together and with the support of the ORCID DE project they contribute significantly to the successful distribution of ORCID in Germany.

    Workshop on PIDs within NFDI: Report of the Working Group “Persistent Identifiers (PID)” of the Section Common Infrastructures of the NFDI

    In order to gain an overview of the current state of the discussion on PIDs and for the identification of use cases for the initiation phase of a PID service within the NFDI basic services, the working group Persistent Identifier of the Section Common Infrastructures of the NFDI hosted an online workshop in January 2023. In the course of the workshop, members of nine different NFDI consortia presented the current application of PIDs in their consortia.
