Es gibt verschiedene Gründe, aus denen wissenschaftliche Zeitschriften, die auf institutionellen Plattformen gehostet werden, aus dem Internet verschwinden können. Angesichts des anhaltenden Krieges in der Ukraine steigt das Risiko des Verlusts wertvoller wissenschaftlicher Forschungsergebnisse in der Ukraine dramatisch an. Die Idee zu diesem Projekt entstand kurz nach Kriegsbeginn. Das Ziel ist es: ukrainische Open-Access-Zeitschriften durch Web-Recording und langfristige digitale Bewahrung zu retten und ihre dauerhafte Zugänglichkeit zu gewährleisten. Die Kriterien für die Aufnahme von Zeitschriften umfassten Forschungsdisziplinen, die für die Themenbereiche der TIB relevant sind, insbesondere Architektur, Chemie, Informatik, Ingenieurwesen, Mathematik, Physik, Technik und Naturwissenschaften. Darüber hinaus wurde das Vorhandensein englischsprachiger Artikel und eine angemessene Lizenzierung berücksichtigt. Der Ansatz des Projekts lehnt sich an die internationale Initiative sucho.org an, die als "Saving Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Online“ weltweite Beachtung fand. Das Team setzt bei EPP UA ebenfalls das Web-Archivierungstool des Web-Recorders ein. Hierbei wird ein ganzheitlicher Ansatz verfolgt, durch harvesten erfassen wir nicht nur die Artikel im PDF-Format, sondern die Zeitschriften-Websites mit allen Inhalten. Während des Projektverlaufes treten die verschiedensten Probleme auf, vor allem führen die Stromausfälle in der Ukraine, aber nicht nur diese, zu Schwierigkeiten. Als Resultat erstellen wir Archivdateien der kompletten Webseiten, diese sollen die ukrainischen Open-Access-Zeitschriften für die Nutzer leicht zugänglich machen, mittels digitaler Langzeitarchivierung sollen die Inhalte dauerhaft bewahrt werden und damit sie gegenenfalls den ukrainischen Herausgebern zur Verfügung gestellt werden können.

Development and implementation of Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) is one of the most transparent and practical approaches to curate research information on a national level. The process of building and implementing such systems is a complex and time consuming where successful results heavily depend on the established research information infrastructure of a country, the interoperability of the systems and the quality of the information which reside in them. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the existing Ukrainian Research Information Infrastructure and identify which databases could be reused and integrated with a national Ukrainian Current Research Information System (URIS). The analysis showed that there are functional databases and registries that collect data on research activities and could be used as a data sources for the URIS. In particular, the Unified State Electronic Database on Education is a potential data source on higher educational institutions, the National Repository of Academic Texts - on metadata on research output, internal database of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine and database on research projects maintained by Ukrainian Institute of Scientific Technical and Economic Information - on projects. Secondly, it was identified that Ukrainian research infrastructure lacks complete, up-to-date registry on researchers. Finally, we discussed the challenges and solutions for further steps in building national CRIS.

This conference paper presents an overview of the ongoing initiative EPP UA — Electronic Preservation Project for Ukrainian Open Access Journals, initiated by TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library. The EPP UA aims to address the pressing need for preservation of open access journals published and hosted by academic institutions in Ukraine. The heightened risk of destruction from the Russian military invasion jeopardizes both the physical infrastructure of academic institutions and the scholarly knowledge stored within their servers. Given that Ukrainian OA journals rarely utilize long-term preservation services, this initiative emphasizes the urgency to ensure accessibility to research content for future generations of scientists and readers.
