    Ontology-Based Representation for Accessible OpenCourseWare Systems

    OpenCourseWare (OCW) systems have been established to provide open educational resources that are accessible by anyone, including learners with special accessibility needs and preferences. We need to find a formal and interoperable way to describe these preferences in order to use them in OCW systems and retrieve relevant educational resources. This formal representation should use standard accessibility definitions of OCW that can be reused by other OCW systems to represent accessibility concepts. In this article, we present an ontology to represent the accessibility needs of learners with respect to the IMS AfA specifications. The ontology definitions together with rule-based queries are used to retrieve relevant educational resources. Related to this, we developed a user interface component that enables users to create accessibility profiles representing their individual needs and preferences based on our ontology. We evaluated the approach with five examples profiles.

    Digitalizing the Chemical Landscape: A Comprehensive Overview and Progress Report of NFDI4Chem

    The Chemistry consortium NFDI4Chem aims to digitalise key steps in chemical research, supporting scientists in managing research data throughout its life cycle. The SmartLab, embedded in a federation of services, integrates various tools such as electronic lab notebooks, data repositories, and search services, to create a smart lab environment for structured data gathering. Utilizing terminology services and adhering to data format standards, NFDI4Chem promotes secure and FAIR data sharing, fostering collaboration and expediting scientific discoveries. This development is supported by community building measures, workshops, and training initiatives, along with collaboration on international minimum information standards.

    D3.3.2 Ontological Framework for a Semantic Digital Archive ; DURAARK - Durable Architectural Knowledge ; FP7 - ICT - Digital Preservation

    In this deliverable, a framework for a Semantic Digital Archive (SDA) for buildings and their components is suggested and described: The organizational framework for the Semantic Digital Archive as well as its methodological and technological enablers are outlined and specified. Conceptual approaches for the creation, maintenance and use of mappings between the building-specific Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) schematic and instance models with established datasets and vocabularies (e.g. the ones offered by the Linked Open Data cloud) are provided. It is shown how such mappings can be used to semantically enrich Building Information Model instances and how such enrichments can be preserved independently of the continuous evolvement of the referenced data sets. In order to track such changes in external data sets and reduce the amount of storage needed in the SDA, the concept of a Semantic Digital Observatory (SDO) is introduced and discussed. Using concrete data sets with a high relevance for the building industry, and in particular the reference vocabulary of then bSDD examples are provided that demonstrate the mechanisms introduced here. During future activities of the DURAARK project, the conceptual approaches introduced here are implemented in software prototypes as a proof of concept solution for the long-term preservation of semantically enriched Building Information Models.

    VIVO-DE-Extension und VIVO-KDSF – Ontologien für den deutschsprachigen Raum

    Der Aufbau einer deutschsprachigen Version der Fachinformationssystem-Software VIVO ist nicht so einfach, da sich auf allen Ebenen des Systems sprachspezifische Elemente finden -- von der Anzeige bis hin zu den enthaltenen Ontologien -- und da eine direkte Übersetzung aufgrund kultureller Unterschiede in den Wissenschaftslandschaften oft nicht möglich ist. In dieser Präsentation werden die entsprechenden Aktivitäten der deutschsprachigen VIVO-Community vorgestellt und es wird zur Beteiligung aufgerufen.
