    Azadiphosphaindane-1,3-diyls: A Class of Resonance-Stabilized Biradicals
(Weinheim : Wiley-VCH, 2021) Bresien, Jonas; Michalik, Dirk; Schulz, Axel; Villinger, Alexander; Zander, Edgar
Conversion of 1,2-bis(dichlorophosphino)benzene with sterically demanding primary amines led to the formation of 1,3-dichloro-2-aza-1,3-diphosphaindanes of the type C6H4(μ-PCl)2N-R. Reduction yielded the corresponding 2-aza-1,3-diphosphaindane-1,3-diyls (1), which can be described as phosphorus-centered singlet biradical(oid)s. Their stability depends on the size of the substituent R: While derivatives with R=Dmp (2,6-dimethylphenyl) or Ter (2,6-dimesitylphenyl) underwent oligomerization, the derivative with very bulky R=tBuBhp (2,6-bis(benzhydryl)-4-tert-butylphenyl) was stable with respect to oligomerization in its monomeric form. Oligomerization involved activation of the fused benzene ring by a second equivalent of the monomeric biradical and can be regarded as formal [2+2] (poly)addition reaction. Calculations indicate that the biradical character in 1 is comparable with literature-known P-centered biradicals. Ring-current calculations show aromaticity within the entire ring system of 1. © 2020 The Authors. Angewandte Chemie International Edition published by Wiley-VCH GmbH

A Highly Active Cobalt Catalyst for the General and Selective Hydrogenation of Aromatic Heterocycles
(Weinheim : Wiley-VCH, 2023) Bauer, Christof; Müller, Felix; Keskin, Sercan; Zobel, Mirijam; Kempe, Rhett
Nanostructured earth abundant metal catalysts that mediate important chemical reactions with high efficiency and selectivity are of great interest. This study introduces a synthesis protocol for nanostructured earth abundant metal catalysts. Three components, an inexpensive metal precursor, an easy to synthesize N/C precursor, and a porous support material undergo pyrolysis to give the catalyst material in a simple, single synthesis step. By applying this catalyst synthesis, a highly active cobalt catalyst for the general and selective hydrogenation of aromatic heterocycles could be generated. The reaction is important with regard to organic synthesis and hydrogen storage. The mild reaction conditions observed for quinolines permit the selective hydrogenation of numerous classes of N-, O- and S-heterocyclic compounds such as: quinoxalines, pyridines, pyrroles, indoles, isoquinoline, aciridine amine, phenanthroline, benzofuranes, and benzothiophenes.

Activation of perfluoroalkyl iodides by anions: extending the scope of halogen bond activation to C(sp3)-H amidation, C(sp2)-H iodination, and perfluoroalkylation reactions
(Cambridge : RSC Publishing, 2023) Wang, Yaxin; Cao, Zehui; He, Qin; Huang, Xin; Liu, Jiaxi; Neumann, Helfried; Chen, Gong; Beller, Matthias
A simple, efficient, and convenient activation of perfluoroalkyl iodides by tBuONa or KOH, without expensive photo- or transition metal catalysts, allows the promotion of versatile a-sp3 C-H amidation reactions of alkyl ethers and benzylic hydrocarbons, C-H iodination of heteroaryl compounds, and perfluoroalkylations of electron-rich p bonds. Mechanistic studies show that these novel protocols are based on the halogen bond interaction between perfluoroalkyl iodides and tBuONa or KOH, which promote homolysis of perfluoroalkyl iodides under mild conditions.

    2,4-Bis(arylethynyl)-9-chloro-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroacridines: synthesis and photophysical properties
(Frankfurt, M. : Beilstein-Institut zur Förderung der Chemischen Wissenschaften, 2021) Tka, Najeh; Ayed, Mohamed Adnene Hadj; Braiek, Mourad Ben; Jabli, Mahjoub; Chaaben, Noureddine; Alimi, Kamel; Jopp, Stefan; Langer, Peter
Acridine derivatives have attracted considerable interest in numerous areas owing to their attractive physical and chemical properties. Herein, starting from readily available anthranilic acid, an efficient synthesis of 2,4-bis(arylethynyl)-9-chloro-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroacridine derivatives was accomplished via a one-pot double Sonogashira cross-coupling method. The UV-visible absorption and emission properties of the synthesized molecules have been examined. Additionally, theoretical studies based on density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP/6-31G(d)) were carried out.

Difluoroalkylative carbonylation of alkenes to access carbonyl difluoro-containing heterocycles: convenient synthesis of gemigliptin
    (Berlin ; Heidelberg : Springer, 2022) Bao, Zhi-Peng; Zhang, Youcan; Wang, Le-Cheng; Wu, Xiao-Feng
Fluorinated heterocycles play a vital role in pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. Hence, rapid and efficient construction of fluorinated heterocycles remains highly demanded. Herein, a difluoroalkylative carbonylative cyclization of unactivated alkenes and ethylene gas enabled by palladium catalysis has been developed for the first time toward the synthesis of α-carbonyl difluoro-modified glutarimides. This procedure can also be applied to the synthesis of GeMigliptin which is a medicine approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. [Figure not available: see fulltext.]
