- ItemThe Structure, Properties and Application of Solid Contact Glass Mini-Electrode(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 2004) Wang, C.; Chen, M.; Dong, S.; Tao, Y.; Qi, J.; Lepnev, G.The glass mini-electrode, with solid (Li/Pb alloy) contact with lithium silicate glass (containing La₂O₃ and ZrO₂), is prepared, which diameter is 2 mm and length 7mm. The measuring range of pH value is 1-9; the transition parameter is larger than 90%; response time is less than 10s. The stomach juices of 18 white rats are surveyed. The results show that pH values of them are within 2-5 and the average deviation is less than 0.1 compared to that measured by PB-20 Sartorius acidimeter. There is a great potential for the mini-electrode to be applied to examining mortal stomach juice, for diagnosing stomach- disorder and cancer in advance.
- ItemInvestigation of Phase Separation in Doped and Un-doped Sodium Borosilicate Glasses(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 2004) Gatterer, K.; Ried, P.; Bettinelli, M.; Speghini, A.; Arafa, S.The practical importance of phase separation for the optical and mechanical properties of many glass forming systems is well established. In the present contribution glasses within the immiscibility region of the sodium borosilicate system as well as samples to which 0.5 and 1 Mol% dopant ions (Eu³⁺ and P⁵⁺) have been added, were prepared under normal conditions. The separation process is monitored by UV-Vis transmittance and luminescence spectroscopy. The spectra are recorded after different intervals of heat-treatment in air. From the transmittance spectra chromaticity coordinates are obtained and the effect of heat treatment is depicted in chromaticity diagrams. From the luminescence spectra of the Eu³⁺ doped samples asymmetry ratios are obtained.

- ItemReplication of micro- and diffractive optical elements(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 2003) Gale, M. T.Replication technology for moulding optical surface relief structures into polymer or sol-gel material combines extremely high resolution capability with low-cost mass production potential. In this paper we summarise the main replication technologies used for optical micro- and nano-structures and give examples of developments and products.
- ItemInfluence of Flame and Hydrofluoric Acid Treatment on Surface Damage of Tableware(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 2004) Petrušková, V.; Vrábel, P.; Šimurka, P.; Šajgalík, P.Rim area is a critical part of tableware with respect to corrosion in dishwashing process and also during sensitive in organic lustre decoration. The goal of this study was to analyse influence of both process the thermal treatment and HF etching on glass surface composition. Glass samples coming from production were analysed using visual assessment, optical microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Electron Microprobe Analysis (EMA-EDXA). Surfaces treated by flame during edge melting showed significant decrease of sodium (average 7%) and increase of organic carbon (till 71 atom %). The same locations exhibited surface damage during dishwashing and lustre decoration. The inner side of the critical surface showed only slight dealkalization (average 3%), while glass surface without secondary flame treatment did not differ incomposition from glass bulk. Surfaces etched by HF were depleted by sodium (average 30%), enriched by calcium and potassium (average 18-43 %). Also CaF₂ presence was found out as a result of crystallisation. Inspite of a different composition from a bulk, no damage was never observed after HF application during lustre decoration. Presence of organic carbon originated probably from reduction flame seems to be more important formentioned type of damage as the differences in glass compositions caused by heat treatment.
