- ItemThermal insulation and sealing materials manufactured from textile silica sliver(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 1995) Achtsnit, Hans-DieterThe known inorganic yarns for the production of textile products which may be applied up to 1100°C are either very costly to manufacture, difficult to process due to their weak mechanical properties or they are strongly suspected of being a health risk. The new textile silica sliver is to fulfil the requirements with regard to low costs, safety to health and diverse textile processability. Combined in a continuous process are: a) the dry spinning of sodium silicate filament yarn, b) the direct formation of sodium silicate slivers by the drum drawing process and c) the transformation to textile silica sliver in a post-treatment line. The sliver is wound on directly. The various textile products manufactured from textile silica slivers or staple fiber yarns made therefrom are suitable for application in insulation and heat protection up to 1100°C. The following is a summary of possible use in a glass plant: rolls, - thermal insulation, - electrical insulation, - seals and gaskets, - safety equipment.
