This paper discusses the published papers on the durability of siliceous MMMF (Man-Made Mineral Fibers) with regard to their possibilities to predict the in-vivo behavior. The persistence of siliceous MMMF in the tissue depends essentially on their chemical durability. The latter property is many-sided and it is measured by various methods. However, only those experiments allow a statement on the persistence which are appropriate to measure the rate of dissolution of the fibers. This rate follows a zero order of reaction. The influence of organic compounds in the corrosion solutions has also to be considered when conducting experiments outside of tissues. These are the main aspects according to which papers published in this field are evaluated. There is a real chance that planned experiments are suitable to simulate the in-vivo behavior of MMMF.ger
