Abstract
The joint project "QRNG in Space" (SpaceQRNG), carried out as part of the KEEQuant sub-project as part of funding from the BMWi, aimed to develop a quantum random number generator (QRNG) for use in space . The task included the analysis of previous research work, the definition of interfaces, the development of an information-theoretical model as well as the conception and implementation of the optical and electronic components of the system. In addition, the software for digital post-processing of the measurement data and for entropy hashing should be developed. The aim was to create a system that can generate random numbers at a rate of over 1 Gbit/s and can be certified as a true random number generator (TRNG) according to relevant standards. A so-called “elegant breadboard” was aimed for as a level of technology maturity. This represents a preliminary stage for a flight-qualified demonstrator.
