The paper illustrates the uses of controlled release phosphate-based glasses in various agricultural applications. Trace element deficiencies in ruminant animals are discussed and, together with field trial results, controlled release glass compositions are described, which cure deficiencies in copper, cobalt and selenium either singly or in combination. The macro deficiency of magnesium is discussed with reference to hypomagnesaemic tetany. Glass compositions containing 15 to 30 % MgO were used as remedy and field trials showed encouraging results. Work is also quoted using soluble controlled release glasses in fertiliser applications.ger
