Abstract

Although the perspectives of the world's people vary in space and in time, every human concern falls somewhere on the space - time graph. The majority of the world's people are concemed with matters that affect only family, relatives, or friends over a short period of time. Others look farther ahead in time or over a larger area - a community, a city, a nation, or across borders. Only very few people have a global perspective that extends far into the future, far from their own circumstances and communities, and deep into humanity. Professor Norbert Kreidl was a special one of the very few. The profound concem of Professor Kreidl for humanity has inspired us and others in Egypt to think about the world s long-term problems and be prepared to face its challenges. One of the most critical challenges before us is leaming, teaching, and searching how to become responsible and effective global citizens; how to be contributing members in a global community; how to think globally and act locally. Dr. Kreidl was not only a global citizen but also a global Professor. The presentation highlights Dr. Kreidl's contributions to humanity and to the scientific communities in Egypt. His long-term support and contribution to the young researchers at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and at The National Research Center (NRC) and to the well known AUC-NSF-Basaisa Integrated Village project in Egypt will be presented with slides and short video document film.
