Abstract
Manual pin handling on container wagons is hazardous, costly and causes delays in the handling process. The development of automated pin handling for container wagons using innovative mobile robotics can improve occupational safety and working conditions for employees, reduce overall transport costs in seaport hinterland traffic and optimise terminal processes. The aim of the research project was to develop an autonomous robotic system that automates the manual work step. Implementing this robotic system would promote innovations in port technologies in the field of autonomous systems and automated technologies, as well as greater use of IT in German ports, and increase occupational safety by eliminating the need to remain in the loading area. The results can be transferred to other sea and inland ports, giving rail a competitive advantage over trucks and contributing to greater sustainability through reduced CO2 emissions.
