Abstract
The proposed method results from an analysis of the relations between thermal radiation absorption in molten glass and its other characteristics. An experimental situation with controlled thermal gradients was created which allowed the measurement of the absorption spectra. The absorption coefficient could be expressed analytically in terms of wavelength and temperature. This makes the calculation of the emitted radiance for a given temperature profile easier. Since the surface temperature is known, it is then possible to express the thermal gradient in terms of the distance to the surface using several values of the spectral radiance emitted.
