Abstract
Semiconductors play a key role in almost all areas of modern technology and are of central importance, not least for autonomous vehicles. A reliable semiconductor supply within supply chains is therefore of central importance. This can only be achieved with accurate demand forecasts, which require a realistic picture of the demand for semiconductors throughout the entire supply chain. Conventional forecasting methods are often subject to massive distortions, known as the bullwhip effect.
Use case 5.2 of the GAIA-X 4 PLC-AAD project has created a way to improve forecasting accuracy in semiconductor-dependent supply chains through more accurate demand and inventory data. The results achieved include a complete pipeline from the collection of the required data through anonymous surveys, semantic networking of the results and analyses using ontologies and knowledge graphs, and processing using dashboards. This process allows demand data to be accurately collected and converted into a meaningful knowledge graph, which enables a better understanding and optimization of the supply chain. The results consist of an anonymized data set, a knowledge graph, and associated ontologies that capture the complex relationships between the data, and processed insights in the form of query results and visualizations.
Furthermore, the development of a GAIA-X integration, data pipelines, SHACL Shapes for data validation, relevant questionnaires, and a modified multi-party computation application for the surveys was implemented. In follow-up projects such as the EU-funded SC4EU project, results from the use case are already being utilized and will continue to be developed further in the future.
