Abstract

SYMOBIO 2.0 advanced the scientific basis for a smart monitoring system of the bioeconomy (BE). It analyzed key drivers, quantified relevant footprint indicators, linked with other models, conducted comparative LCAs, and further developed remote sensing. The project also involved stakeholders and connected with related research and monitoring systems. UFZ led stakeholder engagement and monitoring system alignment in SYMOBIO 2.0. WP 7.1 established a German BE Monitoring Stakeholder participation with annual workshops and surveys to capture expert and public perspectives, ensuring societal relevance and acceptance of the monitoring. WP 7.2 mapped and compared national, EU, and international monitoring systems, analyzing over 1,000 indicators and creating an online link map to identify overlaps and harmonization potential.
