By means of the finite element method stress effects are quantitatively investigated when labelling recesses are applied to glass containers under internal pressure. Increasing the amount of the recess and decreasing the wall thickness indicate nonlinear increasing stresses. They are avoidable only if recesses are abandoned. Additional variations were made to create a complete picture of the effects: different body diameters, different radii at the junction of the recess. Top load with variation of body diameter, radii at junction of recess, and body diameter respectively does indicate only considerably smaller effects in stress increases compared to internal pressure.ger
