In the production of crystal and optical glass high quality and a consistent product are of prime importance. Oxide dispersion strengthened platinum is an extraordinarily appropriate material for the lining of glass-melting aggregates because of its fine-grain stabilization/dispersion strengthening. The corrosion strength is increased by the elongated fine-grain structure with long grain boundaries. Furthermore, the high-temperature properties are superior to those of other noble metal alloys. Due to the absence of other alloy elements the service life of the melting aggregate can be increased and the degree of purity of the glass can be improved. Longer service life and the reduction of wall thicknesses of the melting aggregates offer cost savings that also have a positive effect on the fixed assets tied up in precious metal stocks.ger
