Tagungsbericht VIVO-Workshop 2017 - “Forschungsinformationen in der Praxis”
Der Wissens- und Erfahrungsaustausch stand im Fokus des 2.VIVO-Workshop 2017 an der Technischen Informationsbibliothek (TIB) in Hannover. Der Workshop, der von rund 40 Teilnehmer/innen aus deutschsprachigen Hochschulen und Universitäten besucht wurde, war in zwei verschiedene Session unterteilt. In vorangestellten Vorträgen wurden sowohl technische Anpassungen und Weiterentwicklungen am Forschungsinformationssystem VIVO an einzelnen Einrichtungen erläutert, als auch Erfahrungsberichte einzelner Anwender/innen geteilt sowie Einsatzmöglichkeiten von VIVO in verschiedenen Kontexten thematisiert. Im anschließenden interaktiven Teil wurden Bedarfe und Herausforderungen diskutiert und gesammelt, die anschließend priorisiert wurden. Als Herausforderungen für die VIVO-Entwickler kristallisierten sich Verbesserungen in den Bereichen Reporting, Datenintegration und einem in den Administrationsbereich integrierten Rollenmanagement heraus. Der Workshop adressierte sehr erfolgreich den ebenso vielfach geäußerten Wunsch nach Vernetzung, Austausch und Fortbildung innerhalb der VIVO-Community und darüber hinaus.
Supporting a VIVO Regional Community
VIVO is member-supported, open source software and an ontology for representing scholarship. VIVO supports recording, editing, searching, browsing, and visualizing scholarly activity. VIVO encourages showcasing the scholarly record, research discovery, expert finding, network analysis, and assessment of research impact. When installed and populated with researcher interests, activities, and accomplishments by an institution, VIVO enables the discovery of research and scholarship across disciplines at that institution and beyond. When VIVO is implemented in a research institution, there is a need to adjust the software to local needs. If a system has its roots in a different country, the adjustments can be more comprehensive. The VIVO ontology and a lot of the underlying assumptions, which are based on the realities of the US scholarly landscape, must be “tailored” to be able to depict the academic culture. The differences concern both the meaning of the translated terms and the usage of the terms in the common language use. This one-hour webinar aims at explaining some of the differences we have experienced while trying to make VIVO compliant to the needs of the German VIVO community. Our motives, goals, tools, and means of communication will be introduced to help others learn from our experiences. Time will be reserved for questions following the presentation. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
Towards Fair Principles for Research Information: Report on a Series of Workshops
This is a summary report of the series of workshops on FAIR research information in open infrastructures that was jointly organised by the State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine (SSTL) and Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology (TIB) which have been collaborating under the framework of Joint German-Ukrainian project supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany and the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine. The workshops successfully harnessed the enthusiasm and experience of librarians, researchers, software providers, public funding body representatives, content providers, scientometricians and information specialists in an attempt to shed light and define criteria which assist discovery and reuse of research information by third-parties and make it FAIR. The series of workshops consisted of four separate workshops which addressed single aspects of FAIR– findability, accessibility, interoperability and reuse concerning research information. Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions workshops were held online between September 2020 and January 2021.
Einführung in das Forschungsinformationssystem VIVO : Hands-On-Lab auf dem 6. Deutschen Bibliothekartag
VIVO, ein auf Linked-Data-Technologien basierendes Open-Source-Forschungsinformationssystem aus den USA, gewinnt zunehmend an Verbreitung in Europa. Um den Bekanntheitsgrad von VIVO im deutschsprachigen, bibliothekarischen Raum zu erhöhen, werden VIVO und die am Open Science Lab (OSL) der Technischen Informationsbibliothek (TIB) entwickelten Zusatzfeatures - wie zum Beispiel die Integration des Kerndatensatzes Forschung in VIVO - im Rahmen eines Hands-On-Labs dem Publikum vorgestellt. Unter Anleitung des OSL-Teams können die Teilnehmer der Session sich mit dem System praktisch auseinandersetzten sowie bestimmte Grundfunktionen und Features des Systems erproben. VIVO wird dazu im Vorfeld in einer Virtual Machine distribuiert und mit beispielhaften Stammdaten befüllt.
