Abstract

A versatile method for the determination of boron in glass and nitride based ceramie materials is described. After digestion with sodium hydroxide, boron is extracted with 2-ethyl-l,3-hexanediol into chloroform. The extracted boron reacts with curcumin to a red complex, which is measured photometrieally. The working range of the method is 0.4 to 1200 μg boron per g. The determination limit (sixfold standard deviation) is 0.4 μg/g. The verification of the results for the developed analytical method with certified reference materials and DIN Standard method is excellent.
