- ItemSpectral remote sensing method of temperature distribution in molten glass for optimizing the glass manufacturing process(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 1989) Adès, Claude; Tsiava, Remi; Traverse, Jean-PierreThe proposed method results from an analysis of the relations between thermal radiation absorption in molten glass and its other characteristics. An experimental situation with controlled thermal gradients was created which allowed the measurement of the absorption spectra. The absorption coefficient could be expressed analytically in terms of wavelength and temperature. This makes the calculation of the emitted radiance for a given temperature profile easier. Since the surface temperature is known, it is then possible to express the thermal gradient in terms of the distance to the surface using several values of the spectral radiance emitted.
- ItemSpectrophotometric analysis of ferrous, ferric and total iron content in soda-lime-silica glass(Offenbach : Verlag der Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft, 1992) Traverse, Jean-Pierre; Toganidis, Tryfon; Adès, ClaudeA study of the bands of charge transfer and of d-d transition was performed in view of quantitative analysis of ferrous, ferric and total iron content. For a given wavelength between 0.32 und 0.33 μm a linear relationship between the absorption and the total iron content can be found for all the redox states studied. Using the band at 1.06 μm allows [Fe2+] determination and by means of the band at 0.38 μm [Fe3+] can also be measured accurately if correction is made using the total iron content. The results of spectroscopic determinations are shown to be coherent with those of chemical analysis to within 1 to 3 %.
